The Russian Foreign Ministry has criticized the West’s dual approach to Afghan refugees, accusing Washington and European nations of intensifying barriers to asylum and implementing forced expulsions. The precarious situation of over 1,000 refugees in Qatar also drew attention.
Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has voiced strong criticism against the dual policies of Western countries regarding Afghan refugees, accusing the United States and European nations of increasing asylum barriers and accelerating the forced expulsion of migrants.
Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated that the United States, Britain, and Germany have not only tightened the criteria for accepting Afghan immigration cases but have also expedited the process of forcibly returning these individuals. Zakharova emphasized that while these countries criticize the human rights violations committed by the Taliban regime, they simultaneously repatriate Afghan refugees back under the very authority of that regime.
The spokesperson highlighted the unclear and distressing circumstances faced by over 1,000 Afghan refugees at a former U.S. military base in Qatar. She remarked that as time passes, there remains no clarity regarding the ultimate fate of these individuals, showcasing the lack of commitment from Western countries to support Afghan refugees.
Zakharova also referenced special flights arranged by Berlin to return Afghan refugees to Kabul. This action is viewed as indicative of the contradictory and dual approach of Western nations towards asylum seekers.
In conclusion, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson urged the international community to pay greater attention to the plight of Afghan refugees and to respect their rights.
