The spokesperson for Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that plans to relocate Afghan refugees from the United States to Pakistan are currently under review. This process faces legal hurdles as well as challenges stemming from a lack of diplomatic relations.
Sajjad Haider Khan, spokesperson for Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the Trump administration’s plan to transfer Afghan refugees from the United States to Pakistan is being assessed. According to him, this arrangement involves returning these refugees to Afghanistan via Pakistan’s territory.
In response to a question about Pakistan’s role in this plan, Mr. Haider Khan emphasized the country’s commitment to maintaining coordination with international partners and adhering to global standards. He highlighted that the relevant aspects of this issue will be thoroughly examined in consultation with the involved parties.
Previous reports indicate that Washington intends to return at least 150 Afghan citizens detained by U.S. immigration authorities through Pakistan to Afghanistan. This move is complicated by the absence of formal diplomatic relations between Washington and Kabul.
Currently, the execution of this process is facing legal challenges. A federal judge in New York has issued a temporary halt on the deportation flights for these refugees. This development has raised further concerns regarding the plight of Afghan refugees.
