China Urges Global Action to Revive Afghanistan’s Economy and Combat Terrorism

San Li, China’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, emphasized the critical need for reviving Afghanistan’s economy, stating that this could help mitigate group threats.

Economic Development and Security in Afghanistan

During a recent Security Council meeting, San Li highlighted the link between restoring Afghanistan’s economy and reducing terrorism risks. He urged the international community to intensify efforts to improve the economic and living conditions of the Afghan people.

Group Threats and Security Risks

Li warned that group factions, particularly the Khorasan branch of the Taliban, remain a significant threat to Afghanistan and its neighbors, having enhanced their capabilities for cross-border attacks.

Afghanistan’s Commitments in the Fight Against Terrorism

The diplomat called on Afghan authorities to honor their commitments in combating terrorism and to take necessary actions against all group factions operating within the country. He stressed that Afghanistan should not become a haven for terrorism.

The Need for International Assistance

Li stated, “The global community must assist Afghanistan in revitalizing its economy and improving the livelihoods of its people to eliminate the conditions conducive to terrorism in this nation.”

Regional Cooperation on Security

China’s Deputy Representative also announced Beijing’s support for Central Asian countries and regional organizations, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, to strengthen collaboration with Afghanistan in addressing group threats. Over the past years, China has consistently pointed out the connection between Afghanistan’s economic stability and its security.
