Five German soldiers are facing legal action in connection with the alleged theft of military equipment and memorabilia during the chaotic evacuation from Kabul airport in 2021…
German media have reported that five military personnel from Germany are under investigation for alleged theft during the tumultuous evacuation at Kabul’s international airport in August 2021, with a criminal case filed against them.
According to a report by the Bild newspaper, the incidents occurred in the military sector of Kabul airport, where items such as equipment, T-shirts, fabric patches related to military uniforms, and various souvenirs were available for sale to the troops. The accused soldiers allegedly took these items without payment and unauthorized. Additionally, reports of several missing military knives from the same area have also surfaced.
The public prosecutor in the city of Kempton has confirmed that the case is currently under investigation. Officials stated that the theft issue in Kabul came to light while police and inspectors were probing a separate case involving other military personnel, during which information about these disciplinary and financial violations in Kabul was disclosed.
The German Ministry of Defense has announced that upon receiving the initial reports, the military’s disciplinary investigation office examined the matter and has officially referred the case to the public prosecutor in Kempton to address the potential crimes according to the country’s penal laws.
