ISIS-Khorasan Claims Assassination of Taliban Official in Badakhshan

The terrorist group ISIS-Khorasan has claimed responsibility for the assassination of Zabihullah Amiri, the head of Taliban’s Information and Culture Department in Badakhshan Province. Amiri was shot and killed alongside his bodyguard near Faizabad by armed assailants.

ISIS Claims Responsibility for Taliban Official’s Assassination

The ISIS-Khorasan terrorist group has officially taken responsibility for the attack that led to the death of Zabihullah Amiri, the head of the Taliban’s Information and Culture Department in Badakhshan Province. In a published statement, the group asserted that its members targeted this high-ranking local official near the city of Faizabad using automatic weapons.

Details of the Incident and Casualties

According to local reports, Zabihullah Amiri was ambushed by two armed individuals riding a motorcycle on his way to the center of Badakhshan Province (Faizabad) on Tuesday. As a result of this shooting, both Amiri and one of his bodyguards were killed instantly.

Pursuit of the Attackers and Arrests

Following the assassination, Taliban security forces immediately began pursuing the fleeing assailants. During the confrontation and chase between Taliban forces and the armed attackers, one of the assailants was killed, while the second managed to escape but was later apprehended by Taliban troops after being injured.

Statistics on ISIS-K Activity in the Region

Statistical reports indicate that ISIS-Khorasan has carried out at least 25 terrorist attacks in Afghanistan and Pakistan since the beginning of 2026, with 22 of those in Pakistan and 3 within Afghanistan. Notably, two of the three attacks that occurred in Afghanistan this year were specifically organized and executed in Badakhshan Province.
