Amrullah Saleh Criticizes Qatar’s Role in Afghan Peace Efforts

Amrullah Saleh: Qatar Sided with the Most Savage Faction in Afghanistan

Amrullah Saleh, the former first vice president of Afghanistan, reacted strongly to recent statements made by Qatar’s foreign minister regarding the effective role of the country in establishing peace in Afghanistan. He vehemently condemned Doha’s stance towards the Taliban.

Empowering an Oppressive Faction

In his response to Qatar’s foreign minister, Saleh emphasized that the Doha government should be reminded that they empowered a faction that is against the rest of the Afghan nation and continues to support it.

He added:
“Qatar has sided with the most oppressive and savage faction in the Afghan conflict, bringing no peace as a result.”

Women’s Deprivation and Questions about Sharia

The former vice president highlighted the consequences of Qatar’s support for the Taliban, stating that the group, which Qatar has supported and continues to support, has deprived over 20 million Afghan women and girls of education, healthcare, and any meaningful participation in public life.

In a serious inquiry aimed at Qatar, he posed the question:
“Is this the version of Islamic law that you have funded and legitimized?”

Rejecting Qatar’s claims of having a commendable mediating role, he stressed that the Qatari government has no cause for pride and, instead, should feel profound shame for the assistance it has provided to the Taliban.
