Insecurity in Afghanistan’s Global Ranking

This report reveals that Afghanistan ranks just above countries like South Sudan, Israel, Ukraine, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, and Russia. It notes a slight decrease of 0.5% in the country’s overall score in 2026, although improvements have been observed in certain indicators.

Changes in Security and Political Indicators

The findings indicate improvements of 1.5% and 10% in safety and security and political instability, respectively. These changes are largely attributed to the consolidation of Taliban control over political and security institutions, as well as a decrease in organized opposition activities.

Serious Warnings About the Future

Despite some progress, the report warns that the Taliban’s monopolistic governance, political restrictions, and Afghanistan’s international isolation pose serious threats to the country’s long-term stability. Furthermore, the ongoing conflict situation has worsened, with a 1.9% increase in violence and a 19.2% rise in deaths resulting from external conflicts.

Global Peace Status

Overall, the report acknowledges a deteriorating state of peace globally. Among the 163 countries analyzed, 99 have experienced a decline in peace levels, while only 62 have seen improvements compared to previous years.
