Afghan Opposition to Pakistan’s Aggressions: Distancing from Taliban Exploitation

رحمت الله نبیل 550x295 - Afghan Opposition to Pakistan's Aggressions: Distancing from Taliban Exploitation

Rahmatullah Nabil, the former head of the National Security Directorate of the Republic, emphasized in a tweet that the opposition of the people of Afghanistan to the aggressions and attacks of Pakistan has nothing to do with support for the Taliban, and this group has no right to exploit this position for its own interests…

Secret Background of the Taliban with Pakistan’s Intelligence

Rahmatullah Nabil, the former head of the National Security Directorate in the Republic of Afghanistan, expressed a strong stance regarding the ongoing tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan, attempting to delineate the boundary between the national stance of the people of Afghanistan and the political games of the Taliban.
He stated on his social media account on X (formerly Twitter) that the public opposition of the people of Afghanistan to the aggressions and attacks of Pakistan has no connection with supporting the Taliban, and this group should never interpret this position to its advantage.
Nabil wrote: The people of Afghanistan know Pakistan well, as well as the infamous face of the Taliban. They should not forget that the Taliban had clandestine dealings with the intelligence of Pakistan for three decades and acted against the national interests of Afghanistan in many cases.

Heightened Tension; Trade Relations on the Verge of Stopping

These statements come at a time when tensions between the Taliban caretaker government and Islamabad have reached their highest level in recent years. This dispute has led to a near cessation of bilateral trade relations, and exchanges of security accusations—including border attacks, support for opposition groups, and violations of sovereignty—are frequently reiterated in official statements from both sides.
Nabil had previously noted that the countries in the region have become aware of Pakistan’s intelligence games in Afghanistan and are no longer willing to cooperate with it. This positioning could be interpreted as an effort to change the balance of power and raise regional awareness in Central and South Asia.

Effort to Prevent the People from Being Used in Proxy War

Nabil’s remarks extend beyond historical criticism and are seen as a conscious effort to separate the public address of Afghans from the current competitive narrative between the Taliban and Pakistan. The aim of this positioning is to prevent the people of Afghanistan from becoming tools in a regional proxy war. This approach indicates that informal power layers, especially former security figures, still play a role in defining the national address of Afghanistan in the absence of democratic institutions.
The escalating tension between the Taliban and Pakistan, despite a deep history of strategic cooperation, shows that previous dependency has turned into a one-sided security compliance, which is now facing the Taliban’s efforts for operational independence. Observers believe this trend could create new opportunities for Afghanistan in the region as well as severely exacerbate internal security crises.
