The official report reveals that Afghan refugees have submitted 37,419 asylum applications, marking the highest rate of international requests for protection, which reflects a continued wave of extensive migration from the country.

Germany: The Main Attraction for Afghan Refugees

The findings suggest that Germany is still recognized as the most popular and primary destination for Afghan migrants in Europe. According to the provided figures, four out of ten Afghan citizens applying for asylum in European countries choose Germany as their ultimate destination. This significant concentration has led to Afghan nationals accounting for 37% of all asylum cases registered with immigration offices in Germany.

Relative Decrease in Overall Asylum Applications and Geographical Distribution of Applicants

This information is published as more than 321,000 asylum applications have been submitted from various countries to the EU, Norway, and Switzerland during the first six months of 2026.
