Disturbing figures emerge as over 8,000 journalists in Afghanistan have ceased their professional engagements, according to a statement by Reporters Without Borders. In a recent report, the organization highlighted that the toll of departing media practitioners surpasses two-thirds of the total 12,000-strong journalist community in the nation.
The report further emphasizes a distressing trend, revealing that a staggering 80% of female journalists have been forced to discontinue their vocations since August 15, 2021.
Reporters Without Borders’ compiled data paints a bleak picture: more than half of the 547 registered media entities have ground to a halt in their operations in 2021.
