Wall Street Journal: Taliban seek control of humanitarian aid distribution

The Wall Street Journal reports that the Taliban are trying to expand their role in distributing international aid in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, the international community is trying to provide direct assistance to the Afghan people without the involvement of the Taliban.

At the same time, many countries assisting Afghanistan are willing to do so without the intervention of Taliban officials.

The paper said that the Taliban have control over NGOs operating in Afghanistan and are demanding more comment on the recipients of aid and staff hired by NGOs, putting the lives of Afghans at risk of being rescued.

According to humanitarian organizations, foreign officials, and documents reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, in practice, the Taliban are increasingly interfering with the ability of humanitarian organizations to operate independently.
