Ariana News Agency: A US general involved in the war in Afghanistan said Washington should help the Afghan people fight the Taliban.

As reported by Al Jazeera, Austin Miller, a US general in the Afghan war said,
“At the moment, the United States has a lot of military and weapons on Afghan soil, and it must help the Afghan people in the fight against extremist groups and the Taliban before the American troops withdraw completely,”

He added: “It is possible that after the complete withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan, security in this country will seriously deteriorate, so as long as we are in this country, we must help maintain the security of the Afghan people and prevent the Taliban from advancing and taking over different areas”

He added that the loss of some strategic areas in Afghanistan and the Taliban’s dominance of border crossings could be dangerous to the country’s security, and that the United States should consider the situation before the end of its withdrawal from Afghanistan. Perhaps these advances inside Afghanistan will plunge the country into a full-blown civil war.

“A precise political solution may be the only way out of this situation for the Afghan people,” Miller said.

Different groups in Afghanistan must work to reach a comprehensive peace agreement.

The United States has been intervening militarily in Afghanistan for more than two decades under the pretext of fighting terrorism and extremist groups. However, after US officials have suffered numerous setbacks in the country, they have now decided to leave Afghanistan empty-handed. Many call the Afghan war a double-edged sword for the United States because of the severe economic and military blows to the country.

However, US President Joe Biden has met with Afghan officials in recent days to emphasize that although US troops are leaving Afghanistan, Washington does not intend to leave Afghanistan permanently. The remarks were followed by various domestic groups, including the Taliban, who said, Americans will be solely responsible for any consequences if they stayed in Afghanistan beyond the deadline.
