United Nations: Drug production in Afghanistan has increased by 8%

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has announced an 8 percent increase in drug production in Afghanistan.

According to the report, the average production of narcotics in Afghanistan in 2021 was 68,000 tons, while in 2020, this figure would reach 63,000 tons.

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) reports that an average of 38.5 kilograms of opium was obtained per hectare in 2021. While this figure in 2020 was 28 kg per hectare.

The United Nations also added that drug production in Afghanistan was the most significant illegal economic activity in the past year.

The report estimates Afghanistan’s GDP value at $ 1.8 billion to $ 2.7 billion last year.
