UN: Guterres worries about Afghanistan’s future

آنتونیو گوترش 550x295 - UN: Guterres worries about Afghanistan's future

Ariana News Agency: A UN spokesman said the secretary-general had spoken about the future of Afghanistan and its security situation.

According to Al Jazeera television, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s spokesman Stephen Dujarric said Antonio Guterres was concerned about the country’s future and security situation, as well as jeopardizing the achievements of the Afghan people.

“The UN Secretary-General has the same concerns that Deborah Lyons has expressed about the future of Afghanistan and its security situation, as well as the need for a genuine political dialogue that includes regional forces,” he said. “She is also concerned about jeopardizing some of the hard-earned achievements of the Afghan people, especially with regard to women, youth and minorities.”

The remarks coincided with the withdrawal of the United States from the Bagram base in northern Kabul after 20 years.
