Taliban military officials in eastern Afghanistan have announced that new checkpoints will be set up along the Durand Line in Kunar province by order of the group’s Ministry of Defense.
A Taliban official said the purpose of the checkpoints was to prevent destructive activity in the area and ensure public safety. According to him, the construction of these checkpoints will begin soon.
The Taliban set up 32 new checkpoints along the Durand Line in several Kunar counties about three months ago.
Pakistani military rockets have repeatedly targeted Afghanistan’s border areas in Kunar. Pakistanis claim that there are Pakistani Taliban in the area.
