The Office of the US Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) says that the northern, central, northeastern, and southwestern provinces of Afghanistan are facing acute levels of hunger.
According to SIGAR, all the provinces of Afghanistan are facing food insecurity at the level of crisis stage three.
But among these, several provinces in the north, southwest, and northeast of the country are red with level four hunger and a state of emergency.
At this stage, acute malnutrition is very high and mortality is excessive.
