EU member states have condemned the Taliban’s decision to extend the closure of girls’ schools.
The EU statement said the closure of schools for girls was a clear violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and several international instruments to which Afghanistan is a member.
“No religious or social reason can justify such unequal treatment,” the union said.
The European Union (EU) has said that depriving girls of education, the Taliban breaking their commitment to the Afghan people, and the group’s withdrawal are some of their guarantees to Afghanistan’s partners.
The union added that the decision undermines the Taliban’s chances of gaining the internal legitimacy they seek.
