Zabihullah Mujahid, the official spokesperson for the Taliban, has vehemently denied the claims made in a recent United Nations Security Council report regarding the presence of Al-Qaeda within Afghanistan.
In a statement posted on the official Taliban channel, Zabihullah Mujahid labeled the Security Council’s report as an “unjust accusation” against the United Nations and urged member countries to prevent the dissemination of such reports.
The United Nations Security Council’s latest report has asserted the establishment of four Al-Qaeda bases in Ghazni, Laghman, Parwan, and Uruzgan provinces, with the Security Council further alleging the existence of an Al-Qaeda weapons depot in Panjshir.
The report from the Security Council underscores the continued close relationship between the Taliban and Al-Qaeda, asserting that the latter group has managed to persist in Afghanistan under Taliban control, albeit in a “subdued” capacity.
