Short Link:
Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesman for the Taliban, criticized the annual U.S. State Department report on human rights violations in Afghanistan, asserting that Afghan rights are protected under Sharia law.
He emphasized the cultural and human rights differences between Western countries and Afghanistan, cautioning against the imposition of Western values on other nations.
The U.S. State Department’s report accused the Taliban of continuing human rights abuses last year, including corporal punishment for individuals accused of immoral acts. The report further alleges that the Taliban have enacted orders that violate both Afghan law and the country’s international obligations.
Furthermore, the State Department reiterated in its report that the U.S. does not recognize the Taliban as the legitimate government of Afghanistan.
