Taliban Seeks to Strengthen Security Belt on Pakistan Border

طالبان 2 512x295 - Taliban Seeks to Strengthen Security Belt on Pakistan Border

The Taliban’s Ministry of Defense plans to deploy 3,000 military personnel to the Pakistan border in Paktika province. This move is a response to recent tensions with Pakistan and aims to strengthen the border security belt.

According to a report sent by the Taliban’s Ministry of Defense to some government bodies, the group intends to deploy these forces with full equipment in border areas. This decision follows rising tensions with Pakistan and accusations from Islamabad that the Afghan Taliban is harboring armed groups opposed to the Pakistani government.

Sources indicate that some of these troops have been transferred from Panjshir to the eastern border, highlighting the Taliban’s new priority of reinforcing the eastern frontier. However, the Taliban has kept 18,000 troops in Panjshir, reflecting their ongoing concerns about potential internal conflicts in the province.

Internal Disagreements Among Taliban Officials on Pakistan Policy

There appear to be differences among Taliban officials regarding their approach toward Pakistan. Some Taliban commanders, due to historical ties with Pakistani intelligence agencies, favor a cautious approach, while others advocate a tougher stance and increased tensions.

In this regard, the Taliban leader has recently ordered military and security officials to be prepared for any unforeseen situations. He emphasized that Taliban forces should stand firm against any threats, relying on “trust in God.”

Possible Pakistani Response and Regional Implications

This move by the Taliban could further escalate tensions between Kabul and Islamabad. Pakistan has repeatedly conducted airstrikes in border areas, citing the presence of armed groups in Afghanistan. However, the Taliban’s military reinforcement along the border might provoke a stronger response from Islamabad.

The key question remains: Will this troop deployment contribute to stabilizing security along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, or will it set the stage for further conflicts?
