Taliban Expresses Concern Over U.S. Plans to Transfer Afghan Refugees to Pakistan

The Taliban’s interim government has expressed concern over the United States’ decision to transfer Afghan refugees to Pakistan, urging for responsible action in this matter.

Taliban’s Response to U.S. Plan

On November 2, the Taliban’s interim government publicly reacted to the U.S. decision to deport a number of Afghan migrants to Pakistan, labeling the move as worrying. The Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on Washington to act responsibly during the repatriation process of these individuals back to Afghanistan.

Number of Refugees and Transfer Process

According to the Afghan migrant support organization ‘Afghan Ayuk’, the U.S. Immigration Office plans to transfer over 150 undocumented refugees via a charter flight to Pakistan. Following their arrival in Pakistan, these refugees are expected to be returned to Afghanistan.

Willingness to Negotiate

Habib Zia Ahmad Takal, spokesperson for the Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the government is prepared to engage in constructive discussions with the U.S. regarding this issue and is seeking an appropriate solution.

Criticism of Political Agreements

Kabul has criticized any form of interstate agreements, urging nations not to use the legal status of Afghan refugees as a leverage for political relations and to take greater care in this matter.

Lack of Transparency in Details

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has assigned the responsibility of providing details about this process to the Department of Homeland Security. Due to security concerns, this agency has thus far refrained from disclosing precise information regarding this operation.
