A three-member delegation from the Taliban has arrived in Berlin to arrange the necessary technical preparations for the evacuation of more Afghan nationals. The delegation is set to stay in Germany for three weeks.

Taliban Delegation’s Visit to Germany

A three-member delegation from the Taliban has arrived in Berlin with plans to establish conditions for the evacuation of additional Afghan citizens during their three-week stay. Reports indicate that after leaving Kabul, the members traveled to Qatar, where they obtained a 30-day visa from the German representation in that country.

Delegation’s Accommodation in Berlin

The delegation is currently based at the Afghan embassy in Berlin and is expected to visit Bonn and Munich, where the Afghan consulates are located. The German Foreign Ministry has confirmed the visit, stating that its purpose is to issue documents recognized by the Taliban and to ensure the necessary technical prerequisites for facilitating the evacuations.

Technical Support from Germany

According to the German Foreign Ministry, a technical support team has also traveled to Germany for a period of time. Germany has ramped up its collaboration with the Taliban in recent months to assist in the repatriation of Afghans. Just last week, 23 Afghan men were flown back to Kabul on a charter flight from Leipzig.

New Afghan Evacuations

The German government has announced that future evacuations will not be limited to convicted individuals deemed dangerous but will also include other asylum seekers whose applications have been rejected. Two Taliban consular officials who came to Germany last year are responsible for one overseeing the Afghan embassy in Berlin and the other the consulate in Bonn. Their mission is to provide consular services to Afghans abroad and facilitate the evacuations.
