Taliban Government: 400 Afghan Refugees Released from Pakistani Prisons

The Taliban’s Ministry of Migration has announced that approximately 400 Afghan citizens were released from prisons in Pakistan and returned to their homeland this week. According to the announcement, these individuals entered Afghanistan through the “Torkham” and “Spin Boldak” crossings.

The released individuals had been held in Pakistani jails for varying periods due to their lack of legal documentation. The Ministry of Migration stated that following necessary assistance, they have returned to their respective regions.

Pakistani Police Continue to Detain Afghan Refugees

In recent months, Pakistani police have consistently detained Afghan refugees lacking documentation. The ministry also noted the release of over 300 Afghans from Pakistani prisons in the month of Saratan this year. Despite the United Nations’ calls to halt the detention and expulsion of refugees, the Islamabad government continues this practice.

A precise count of the Afghan detainees in Pakistan has not been released, but reports indicate that Islamabad has returned thousands of Afghan citizens to Afghanistan since November of last year due to their lack of legal status.
