Severe Humanitarian Crisis Looms as Afghanistan Faces 70% Cut in Aid Funding

The Norwegian Refugee Council has reported that Afghanistan will face a 70% decrease in humanitarian aid budget in 2025. The organization noted that the allocated budget for humanitarian assistance has plummeted from $3.3 billion in 2022 to just $1 billion in 2025.

Critical Situation for the Needy in Afghanistan

The report indicates a severe decline in funding for humanitarian programs in recent years. In 2021, 96% of the required budget was secured, but this figure has dropped to a mere 26% this year.

Return of Afghan Refugees; New Challenges

Since late 2023, over 6 million Afghans have returned to their homeland from neighboring countries. This mass return has created fresh humanitarian needs, with 73% of returning individuals currently unemployed.
