SIGAR, the US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan, has denied some reports that the value of Afghan security forces’ equipment is estimated at $ 80 billion.
SIGAR says $ 18.6 billion worth of equipment had been procured through the Afghan Security Forces Reconstruction Fund since 2005 until the Taliban took control.
Most of the equipment was destroyed in the fighting, the US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan said to the Pentagon.
With the fall of the previous government, security forces’ equipment fell into the hands of the Taliban, prompting strong criticism from US politicians.
The number of military equipment provided to the Taliban and how much can be used is still unknown.
