The US Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) said, citing an International Labor Organization assessment, that more than 500,000 Afghan workers lost their jobs in the third quarter of 2021.
The agency wrote in a tweet that by mid-2022, the number of people who will lose their jobs since the Taliban took over would reach 700,000 to 900,000.
SIGAR writes that working women are more affected, and it is predicted that the level of women’s employment will decrease by 21% by mid-2022.
The Taliban have taken control of women’s work, and even women breadwinners have struggled to make ends meet. Currently, the majority of female employees in government offices are housed.
