فقر 550x295 - Shocking UNICEF Statistics: Millions of Afghan Children in Urgent Need of Food Assistance

According to a new UNICEF report, child malnutrition in Afghanistan remains critical. In January 2025, over 200 children under the age of five received medical treatment. Rising poverty and unemployment after the Taliban’s takeover have put millions of Afghan children at severe risk.

UNICEF’s Alarming Report on Child Malnutrition

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has reported that 213 malnourished children were treated in Afghanistan in the first month of 2025. Tajuddin Oyvali, UNICEF’s representative in Afghanistan, stated on the social media platform X that all these children are under five years old and still require medical and nutritional support.

A Growing Malnutrition Crisis Among Afghan Children

More than three years after the Taliban seized power, the crisis of poverty and unemployment has worsened. Over 13 million Afghan children are at risk of malnutrition due to severe economic conditions and reduced access to food. International organizations have repeatedly warned about this crisis, but restrictions imposed on humanitarian groups have made aid delivery increasingly difficult.

Urgent Need for Humanitarian Assistance

Experts and human rights organizations stress that without increased international aid and greater humanitarian access, the situation for Afghan children will worsen further. UNICEF and other aid organizations have called on the global community to step up food and medical assistance to prevent a deepening crisis in Afghanistan.
