Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has firmly stated that Moscow does not recognize the Taliban due to their failure to uphold commitments to human rights and establish an inclusive government.
Lavrov, speaking during a press conference at the United Nations headquarters, emphasized the necessity of implementing an all-inclusive political and religious government in Afghanistan.
He pointed out that the Taliban’s disregard for human rights, particularly women’s rights, and their exclusionary approach in forming a government are the key reasons behind Russia’s non-recognition. Lavrov underscored that the Taliban’s composition primarily represents the “Taliban” without adequate representation from other ethnic and religious groups.
