Clashes Erupt in Kamdish as Taliban and Afghanistan Freedom Front Engage in Heavy Fighting

Armed clashes in Kamdish, Nuristan province, have led to conflicting claims between the Taliban and the Afghanistan Freedom Front, with both sides reporting heavy casualties.

Armed Clashes in Kamdish, Nuristan

The district of Kamdish in Nuristan province is currently the scene of armed confrontations between the Taliban government and its armed opponents. The Taliban’s Ministry of Defense has reported that in a recent operation, 28 insurgents were killed and 32 others were captured.

The Taliban claim these individuals are primarily former military personnel who fled to Pakistan and underwent training by the Pakistani army and intelligence services to disrupt security in Nuristan. However, this accusation has not been addressed by Pakistani officials.

Response from the Afghanistan Freedom Front

In response, the Afghanistan Freedom Front stated that the clashes began on Saturday morning following Taliban assaults on their positions. This group claims to have inflicted significant casualties on the Taliban and asserted control over areas in Kamdish and parts of the Nari district in Kunar province.

These movements coincide with support from the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan, with state media releasing footage of deceased individuals and confessions from detainees.

Taliban Claims and Political Reactions

Mufti Mohammad Dawood Moral, the Taliban’s deputy district chief in Kamdish, estimated that around 420 attackers were involved, of whom 25 were captured alive. However, the authenticity of these videos and the figures provided have yet to be verified.

The situation has elicited a reaction from Atta Mohammad Noor, the former governor of Balkh, who criticized the sending of young people to the battlefield and challenged foreign interests, warning that proxy wars should not continue.

This scenario recalls similar incidents that occurred in July in the Zebak district of Badakhshan province.
