Escalating Conflict: Pakistan Launches Airstrikes in Kandahar and Khost Provinces

On Thursday morning, Pakistani military aircraft conducted airstrikes in the provinces of Kandahar and Khost. Taliban officials confirmed these attacks, asserting that there were no reported casualties resulting from them.

Pakistan’s Airstrikes Target Kandahar and Khost

On Thursday, October 2, Pakistani fighter jets executed airstrikes in specific areas within Kandahar and Khost provinces. Both Taliban and Pakistani government officials have acknowledged the occurrence of these strikes. Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesperson for the Taliban, stated that the attacks took place around 3 a.m. in a grassy area located within the ninth security sector of Kandahar.

Mujahid emphasized that these bombings resulted in no casualties or financial losses. Similarly, Mustaghfir Garbz, a spokesperson for the Taliban governor in Khost, reported that positions in the Glan camp in Garbz district and areas near the center of the province, as well as in the districts of Ismail Khel and Manduzai, were also targeted, with no casualties recorded.

Pakistani Bombings: Claims of Targeting 10 Drone Launch Sites

Pakistan’s Information Minister, Attaullah Tarar, issued a statement confirming the air operations and claimed that the military targeted 10 launch and maintenance sites for drones in response to previous attacks from Afghanistan.

While Islamabad has made this assertion, credible Taliban sources have firmly denied any involvement in drone attacks against Pakistan. These bombings are taking place following earlier airstrikes by the Pakistani military on September 30, which had also targeted the provinces of Kunar and Paktika.

Escalating Tensions Between Kabul and Islamabad After Airstrikes

The recent airstrikes have heightened military tensions between Kabul and Islamabad. According to a report by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), prior Pakistani attacks had resulted in the deaths of three Afghan civilians and injuries to four others. This situation raises significant concerns regarding the security and stability of the region.
