New border tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan have escalated into intense military conflicts in the Angoor Ada area. Officials from both countries have accused each other of initiating retaliatory attacks.

Border Tensions Between the Taliban and Pakistan

Recent clashes have emerged along the border line between the Taliban and Pakistan in the Angoor Ada region. Authorities from both countries have accused each other of initiating armed confrontations and employing heavy weaponry.

On Wednesday, the Pakistani government stated that its border forces had launched air and ground attacks in response to “unprovoked” gunfire coming from within Afghanistan. According to Pakistani security sources, these clashes have resulted in the death of one civilian and injuries to five others.

Taliban’s Response to Airstrikes

The Taliban’s Ministry of Defense also reported on Wednesday that Pakistani drones attacked the Angoor Ada market and the local commissioner’s office at around 1 PM. This ministry emphasized that their defensive forces targeted Pakistani military positions in retaliation for these attacks, causing significant damage to personnel and property.

The clashes occurred in South Waziristan, located in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which borders Paktia and Paktika provinces. The Deputy Commissioner of South Waziristan noted that gunfire from Afghan territory has damaged several shops and harmed civilians.

Pakistani Border Forces on High Alert

Following these tensions, the “Pakistan Observer” reported that Pakistani border forces have entered a state of full alert. This escalation comes amidst ongoing accusations by Islamabad that Kabul supports the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), allegations which Afghan officials have vehemently denied. Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesperson for the Taliban, previously dismissed these accusations as baseless, claiming that Pakistan shifts the blame for its own failures onto Afghanistan.

Pakistan’s Claims About Armed Opponents

The Pakistani Army has also claimed to have killed nine armed opponents during two operations in the Balochistan province. These assertions come as border tensions reach a peak, and the security situation in the region appears to be critical.
