According to a report by SIGAR, there has been a concerning surge in forced and underage marriages of girls in Afghanistan in recent months.
SIGAR released a report today, referencing the United Nations, which reveals that post-2021, an alarming 35% of girls in Afghanistan are compelled to marry before turning 18, with 17% marrying before they reach the age of 15.
The SIGAR report discloses that between December 2022 and February 2023, a total of 578 cases of forced marriages were documented, with 361 of these cases linked to early marriages.
