Police Kill Suicide Bomber In Kabul

A suicide bomber walking through the streets of Shar-e-Naw, the busy commercial district in central Kabul, was spotted by police and gunned down before he could reach his target on Monday morning.

According to police the bomber had intended to detonate his explosives at the Shar-e-Naw park were a large group of demonstrators had gathered.

Hashmatullah Stanikzai, Kabul police spokesman, said the suicide bomber had planned to detonate his explosives among supporters of Junbish-e-Mili party who were demonstrating in the park.

However, the bomber did not reach his target but his explosives detonated during the shooting.

Police said there were no casualties in the shooting and subsequent explosion. However, eyewitnesses said a number of people had been wounded.
