The Office of the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) has reported that the Taliban have not taken significant action against the country’s large opium reserves.
“The opium trade in Afghanistan continues largely because farmers were allowed to store significant amounts of stock before the ban went into effect,” the report stated.
According to SIGAR, the opium market in Afghanistan is currently on the rise, with prices also increasing.
This situation persists despite the Taliban’s repeated assertions about their efforts to combat drug production and their claims of success in this area.
