Mujahid: We Reject Any Opposition to Commemorating Ashura

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has refuted several media reports claiming that the head of information and culture in Herat referred to Ashura as “heresy.”

Mujahid clarified that the official did not make such a statement.

Addressing concerns about potential restrictions on the Muharram ceremony, Mujahid emphasized that Shiites have complete freedom to observe Ashura in their areas.

He noted that any restrictions imposed were for the security of the ceremonies and were implemented in collaboration with Shia scholars.

Earlier reports in the media had misinterpreted the statements of the Herat information and culture head, erroneously suggesting he had labeled Ashura as heresy.
