“The Taliban do not have a problem with the hair and face of female media executives, and the group’s rules are only for Afghan women,” said Heather Barr, deputy director of the Asian section of Human Rights Watch.
Ms. Barr, mentioning the interview of Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid with an unveiled presenter on Al-Arabiya TV, said that a Taliban spokesman appeared on television with a Muslim female presenter who did not cover her hair, let alone her face.
According to her, the Taliban’s harsh laws are only to harm Afghan women.
Meanwhile, the Taliban’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice recently ordered female presenters on Afghan television to cover their faces during the program.
This restriction has met with a wave of domestic and international reactions.
In the latest case, the UN Security Council issued a new statement calling the Taliban to lift restrictions on Afghan women immediately.
