Former NATO Secretary General: We could have stayed in Afghanistan with small forces

NATO Secretary General Anders Rasmussen says that NATO members could have remained in Afghanistan with small forces to avoid the country’s catastrophic collapse.

Speaking at the Democracy Summit in Copenhagen, Mr Rasmussen said he deeply regretted the disastrous withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan.

“We could have stayed in [Afghanistan] with a small international force sufficient to stabilize the country,” Rasmussen added.
