The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Afghanistan has announced that the European Union (EU) will provide €13 million to support the treatment of malnutrition and enhance education efforts in the country.
According to a statement from UNICEF, the funding, allocated through the European Union’s Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), will benefit over 78,000 children in Afghanistan by supporting nutrition and education in emergency situations.
UNICEF stated that with this funding, it will procure 62,000 cartons of ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) and train 1,600 health workers to address severe acute malnutrition in children under the age of five.
