Shir Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai, the Political Deputy of the Taliban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the U.S. use of mother bombs and chemical weapons was a major factor in the severe damage to Afghanistan’s environment. He added that 80% of the country’s forests were destroyed during the Soviet occupation, and the climate crisis is a legacy of those periods.

The Taliban’s Political Deputy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs mentioned that the use of mother bombs and chemical weapons by the U.S. severely harmed Afghanistan’s environment.

Shir Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai further emphasized that the climate crisis in Afghanistan has been inherited from the periods of occupation and the establishment of the Islamic Emirate.
