Taliban Unveils Financial Incentives to Attract $68 Million in Investments

The Taliban has announced financial incentives, including tax exemptions and land grants in industrial parks, to attract 81 returning investors with a total investment of $68 million in 2024.

Taliban’s Initiative to Attract Investors

Hamidullah Fetrat, the deputy spokesman for the Taliban, announced that since August 26, 2024, 81 traders and industrialists have returned to the country, collectively investing $68 million in Afghanistan. These individuals fall into three categories: one at a high level, 74 at a medium level, and 14 at a lower level.

Land and New Job Opportunities

The investors have been allocated a total of 288 jeribs (approximately 57.6 hectares) of land in industrial parks in Kabul and several other provinces. This investment has resulted in the creation of 4,661 direct jobs in Afghanistan.

Incentives for New Traders

Additionally, the cases of 15 other investors are in the final stages, and upon completion of administrative procedures, they will benefit from these incentives and facilities. The Taliban has been actively encouraging Afghan traders and industrialists living abroad to return and invest in the country since last year.

Tax and Customs Exemptions

These incentives include land allocation in industrial parks and a five-year tax exemption for certain industrial investments. The economic deputy of the Taliban’s Prime Minister previously stated that investors in new industries would be exempt from taxes for five years, except for employee income taxes.

New Economic Incentive Packages

The latest economic incentive package includes free land, tax exemptions for industrial equipment and machinery, customs exemptions for the importation of two vehicles, and housing support for qualifying investors. These efforts are aimed at creating favorable conditions for investment and encouraging traders to engage in economic activities in Afghanistan.
