Taliban Spokesperson Claims US Influence Bocks Afghanistan’s International Recognition

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Taliban, stated that U.S. pressures are hindering the recognition of the Afghan government, with many countries unable to engage with the Taliban due to the influence of major powers.

U.S. Pressures on Recognition Efforts

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesman for the Taliban government, recently remarked that U.S. pressures on the United Nations and certain other countries have prevented these entities from recognizing the Afghan government. He emphasized that Washington exerts influence over these nations to avoid formal engagement with the Taliban.

Major Powers’ Influence on International Relations

Mujahid noted that many countries have struggled to successfully engage with Afghanistan due to the influence of major powers. He stated, “These countries may not openly declare it, but it is evident that they are pressuring the United Nations and others to delay interactions; otherwise, engagement would have occurred by now.”

Afghanistan Not Responsible for Current Situation

He underscored that the nations that previously fought against the Taliban or are under the sway of major powers have made little progress in establishing relations with Kabul, asserting that Afghanistan should not bear the responsibility for this situation. Mujahid also mentioned that Afghanistan’s foreign policy is based on economic considerations, with Kabul seeking to foster positive relationships with all countries.
