Taliban Spokesperson Claims U.S. Pressure Blocks Afghan Government Recognition

U.S. Pressures on Recognition Efforts

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Taliban government, recently remarked that the pressures exerted by the United States on the United Nations and various other nations have stymied these bodies’ ability to recognize the Afghan government. He emphasized that Washington pushes these nations to refrain from officially engaging with the Taliban.

Influence of Major Powers on International Relations

Mujahid added that many countries have struggled to engage effectively with the Afghan government due to the influence of larger powers. He remarked, “These nations may not express this openly, but it’s clear that pressure is being applied to the United Nations and others to delay interactions; otherwise, agreements would have already occurred.”

The Current Situation is Not Afghanistan’s Responsibility

He asserted that those countries that were formerly at war with the Taliban or are under the sway of major powers have made little progress in establishing relations with Kabul, and he stated that Afghanistan should not bear the blame for the prevailing circumstances. Mujahid also noted that Afghanistan’s foreign policy is based on economic principles, and the country aims to foster positive relations with all nations.
