Tarik Fazl Choudhry, Pakistan’s Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, dismissed Taliban allegations and urged Kabul to fulfill its commitments. He also warned that any attack on Pakistan’s security would be met with a steadfast response.
In a press conference held in Islamabad, Tarik Fazl Choudhry labeled the Taliban’s accusations as unfounded. He called on the Afghan government to focus on addressing its own obligations, specifically by dismantling safe havens for terrorist groups within its territory.
Choudhry emphasized that Pakistan has presented credible and documented evidence regarding the infiltration of armed individuals from Afghanistan into its territory to Afghan officials. This evidence has also been shared during security discussions in Istanbul and Doha; however, he remarked that these negotiations have failed to curb such infiltrations.
The Pakistani official went on to highlight the repercussions of cross-border assaults, stating that Islamabad would deliver a decisive response if Pakistan’s security were threatened. He reiterated the government and security agencies’ determination to thwart any incursions from Afghanistan, assuring that necessary measures would continue.
He also announced a state of emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to insufficient cooperation in security matters. Meanwhile, the local administration in the province is actively conducting counter-terrorism operations to prevent militants from entering Pakistan.
The ongoing tensions between Islamabad and the Taliban, particularly regarding terrorist group activities and the exploitation of geographic advantages for conducting cross-border attacks, remain among the primary causes of disputes between the two parties.
