Pakistan’s Ambassador Highlights Obstacles to Afghanistan’s SCO Membership

In an interview with a Russian media outlet, Faisal Neaz Tarmazi, Pakistan’s ambassador in Moscow, clarified that Afghanistan cannot attain full membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) at this time. He pointed to the current Taliban government and expressed hope for Afghanistan’s future inclusion in the organization, although he identified the existing circumstances as an obstacle.

Tarmazi also stressed that there are serious concerns among SCO member countries about the Taliban administration. He noted that the security structure and worldview of this government are incompatible with the collective perspective of other member nations.
