Herat Governor Announces Two-Month Timeline for TAPI Pipeline Project Completion

The governor of Herat has announced that the TAPI gas pipeline project in Herat will be completed within the next two months, urging residents to prepare for the commencement of pipeline construction.

Progress on the TAPI Project in Herat

During the inauguration of the administrative building for the Chamber of Industries and Mines in the province, Noor Ahmad Islamjar, the Taliban governor of Herat, revealed that the completion of the TAPI gas pipeline project is expected within two months. He also mentioned that upon completion, Turkmen officials will hand over the project to the authorities in Herat.

Preparations for Pipeline Construction

The governor has called on local factory owners and residents to make the necessary arrangements for the upcoming gas pipeline installation. The TAPI project is recognized as a key initiative for energy security in the region.

Details of the TAPI Pipeline Project

This pipeline will transport natural gas from Turkmenistan through Afghanistan and Pakistan to India, spanning approximately 1,814 kilometers, of which 774 kilometers will traverse Afghan territory. The plan anticipates that nearly 33 billion cubic meters of gas will be annually transported from Turkmenistan to India.

Significance of the TAPI Project for Afghanistan

Turkmenistan views this project as a vital route for diversifying its gas exports and strengthening regional economic cooperation. Alongside gaining access to a portion of the gas supply, Afghanistan expects to earn approximately $400 million annually from transit revenues associated with the pipeline.
