In a recent announcement, the European Union revealed a €12 million aid package aimed at delivering vital health care and humanitarian support to vulnerable populations in six southern and western provinces of Afghanistan. The relief program will begin on June 1, 2026, and is expected to run until May 31, 2027.
This initiative will provide direct support to over 347,000 individuals and benefit more than 1.27 million others indirectly across 28 districts in Kandahar, Zabul, Urozgan, Helmand, Farah, and Nimroz provinces. EU officials have emphasized that the primary focus of this aid will be on health services, treatment of malnutrition, provision of safe drinking water, and improving hygiene conditions in the targeted areas.
This action comes at a time when international statistics indicate that approximately 21.9 million people across Afghanistan urgently require humanitarian aid this year. This figure highlights the severe humanitarian crisis in the country and underscores the growing need for international cooperation.
