Nasir Ahmad Faiq, the head of Afghanistan’s mission to the United Nations, emphasized that the policies of the Taliban are incompatible with Islam and Afghan culture, while also advocating for women’s rights.
In a message posted on social media on Saturday (October 25), Faiaq stressed that the actions of the Taliban bear no relation to the true teachings of Islam or the rich cultural heritage of Afghanistan. He called for continued humanitarian assistance, the protection of women and girls’ rights, and the creation of genuine opportunities for the Afghan populace to participate in shaping their political future.
Faiaq remarked on the long-standing cooperation between Afghanistan and the United Nations, highlighting its crucial role during challenging times such as war and refugee crises. He noted that the UN has consistently stood by the Afghan people.
Faiaq also expressed concerns over restrictions on religious freedom and discrimination against ethnic minorities, particularly Shia Muslims, Hazaras, and Ismailis. He criticized the exclusion of women and girls from educational and employment opportunities, asserting that such Taliban policies should not be tied to the religion or traditions of the Afghan people.
In conclusion, Faiaq urged the establishment of an inclusive political system committed to international laws and based on peaceful coexistence with neighboring countries.
