After the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, the number of people below the poverty line has reached 34 million, the United Nations said.
The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) released its latest assessment of 2022, which estimated that 34 million Afghans lived below the poverty line.
This figure shows an increase of 15 million compared to 2020.
The United Nations estimated the country’s population to be 40 million and announced that, based on this assessment, 85 percent of the population now lives below the poverty line.
