The World Food Program (WFP) has issued a warning that the climate crisis in Afghanistan is worsening hunger, highlighting the devastating impact of recent floods across the country.
Hsiao Wei Li, a spokesperson for the WFP, noted that Afghanistan might face additional floods in the upcoming months. “One disaster after another not only disrupts society but also plunges people into poverty,” he stated, stressing that “food security in Afghanistan is at risk of collapse.”
Li emphasized the urgent need for assistance for families affected by the recent floods, which have resulted in both casualties and significant financial losses in the northwestern provinces of Ghor and Faryab.
