Taliban government officials in Herat province have warned driving school instructors against issuing licenses to women.
“We have been verbally telling not to issue driving licenses to women anymore, but we have not received any instructions to prevent women from driving in the city,” said the Herat Urban Traffic Management Institute director, which oversees driving schools.
The Taliban usually refuse to issue written national orders, and most local authorities are responsible for administering these orders in writing and, in some cases, orally.
Since the Taliban came to power, restrictions have been imposed on the lives of citizens, especially women.
