The Deputy Director of Narcotics Control at the Ministry of Interior of the Taliban has issued a firm declaration, asserting that the cultivation of narcotics in Afghanistan has been completely eradicated.
Abdulhaq Akhand elaborated on this accomplishment, stating, “Since the resurgence of our group, we have taken decisive action, resulting in the destruction of over 1,000 drug manufacturing facilities in Afghanistan. Additionally, more than 13,000 individuals have been apprehended and subsequently handed over to the judiciary on charges related to drug production, sale, and smuggling.”
He further highlighted, “Following the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan, we have successfully reclaimed over 15,000 hectares of land previously used for poppy cultivation. This achievement is particularly noteworthy given the absence of significant international cooperation in our efforts to combat narcotics.”
It should be noted that the United Nations had previously reported a staggering 95% reduction in narcotics cultivation and production in Afghanistan, a development that has presented challenges for Afghan farmers.
